Industrial shutdown in Hetauda

Workers affiliated to All Nepal Industrial Workers’ Association, announced an industrial shutdown in Hetauda from today, for failing to provide them the hiked salary and allowance. The government, on June 10, had hiked workers’ salary by Rs 1,550 and given Rs 250 dearness allowance.

Organising a press meet, the Association today said Ganga Soap, National Soap and Unique Soap, that manufacture Unilever Nepal products, Siddhartha Palate, Super Lemicots and Antarctic Biscuit haven’t been paying workers their increased remuneration.

Industries that are paying workers increased salary and allowance, will continue to operate without any disruption. The Association, however, decided to shut down industries after a tripartite meeting between Industries Association, Active Trade Union and workers ended inconclusively yesterday, said Bishnu Rana Magar, chairman of All Nepal Industrial Workers’ Association, Makawanpur. “Many industries have started paying the hiked amount,” said Ram Sharan Ghimire, district coordinator of the Federation of All Nepal Trade Union.

“However, if they fail to do so in future, they will be shut indefinitely,” warned the Association. The Association also plans to monitor industries and hotels in the district in order to ensure strict implementation of the government decision.
As many as 110 industries, including 70 of Hetauda Industrial Estate, are in operation in Makawanpur.
