Govt to amend labour law: Minister

State Minister for Labour Tek Bahadur Gurung on Wednesday apprised the parliamentary committee of the new labour policy that is currently being drafted. He also informed the International Relation and Labour Committee about government plans to amend the labour act with a focus on making workers more responsible and promoting better employer- employee relationship.

Among the provisions being incorporated in the new policy include prioritising safety of migrant workers, especially women. The new policy also calls for greater transparency on the part of concerned manpower agencies while recruiting the migrants for foreign employment. The new law also seeks to prohibit dispatching Nepali migrant workers to labour destinations with whom Nepal has not signed labour pact

Minister Gurung appeared before the parliamentary committee following the directive of the House panel to appraise it regarding the problems facing the labour sector.
