Govt in works to decentralise DoFE

The government is in the works to decentralise the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) to ensure faster and better services related to overseas job processing.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment plans to set up four offices in the Capital within two months. Three of the offices will separately offer services for Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Malaysia, while the fourth branch will deal with other labour migrants’ destinations.

Buddhi Bahadur Khadka, spokesperson at the ministry, said works are going on at full speed to decentralise the department as soon as possible.

The DoFE is in process of acquiring the budget for setting up the offices and registering new employees which, according to DoFE Director General Rabindra Mohan Bhattarai, should not take long.

In early December, the Cabinet of Ministers had approved the proposal tabled by of the labour ministry for decentralising the DoFE.

After decentralisation, the ministry officials believes the central office of the DoFE can concentrate more on policy development and control administrative anomalies in the labour industry.

Establishment of additional offices, which was planned since 2008 and included in the foreign employment policy, is expected to ease hardships faced by millions of workers by cutting out the delays and bureaucratic hassles.
