Girl trafficker gets 20 yrs in jail

Two decades after being sold to a brothel in Mumbai, a middle-aged woman of Makwanpur district has eventually succeeded in bringing to book the man who sold her. 
 
Dil Maya Titung (name changed), 43, of Tistung VDC in the district on Tuesday succeeded in putting Man Bahadur Thokar, 53, of the same VDC behind bars. 
 
Some 21 years ago, Thokar had promised to marry Dil Maya but sold him to an Indian brothel where she spent 20 years. The District Court of Makwanpur on Tuesday sentenced Man Bahadur to 20 years in jail along with a fine of Rs 200,000 and Rs 300,000 in compensation to the victim. 
 
Judge Tek Narayan Kunwar issued the verdict as per Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act, 2064. 
 
Following the court order, the victim will be compensated by the rehabilitation fund of the government until the amount is recovered from Man Bahadur. However, cases against the other two accused Harka Lal Gole and Hari Maya Gayabaa of the district is sub judice at the court.
 
On the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim, the police had arrested Thokar on July 17, 2012. In her statement to the police, the victim said she had been married but her husband disappeared. Then she had arrived in her maternal house to give birth to a son. Thokar then promised her to marry her and brought her to Hetuada only to be taken to the Mumbai brothel. Man Bahadur had sold Dil Maya to the Mumbai brothel for IRs 200,000.
