In a rare diplomatic gesture, French President Francois Hollande wrote a letter to President Ram Baran Yadav expressing his sorrow over the death of a Nepali national last month in a shooting by French soldier in the Central African Republic.

The Nepali national, Karan Bahadur B.K. died in Africa as he was accidently shot at by the French soldier guarding the airport of the capital of the Central African Republic after a coup there last month. The French troops had mistaken a car, on which BK was traveling, for a terrorist vehicle.

“The French president sent the letter last week,” Arjun Bahadur Thapa, spokesperson for the ministry of foreign affairs, told Republica.

Hollande in the letter also expressed his condolence to the bereaved family.

Also, President Yadav responded the French president by sending a letter. The letter has already been dispatched for Paris.

Around 550 French soldiers are present in the Central African Republic to ensure the security of French nationals there.
