Fraud foreign employment agent held

Police have arrested Bishnu Bahadur Tamang, the man wanted for running a fraudulent foreign employment agency that swindled more than 300 people of millions of rupees.

In July 2010, a court had convicted 33-year-old Tamang of fraud in absentia and sentenced him to one and half years imprisonment.

Police had put Tamang on wanted criminal list. Four years after the conviction, Tamang was arrested on Friday by a police team from the Central Investigation Bureau from Samakhusi, Kathmandu.

He had been running a shop at Jyatha while still working as a foreign employment agent for other companies, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Kiran Bajracharya of the CIB. Tamang was produced before the Kathmandu District Court on Sunday.

According to CIB, Tamang had started Lama International in 2006 which was involved in swindling 320 people of more than Rs 21 million on the pretext of sending them to Baharain for employment. Two other persons involved in the scheme with Tamang are still at large.
