Foreign employment turning fatal in Panchthar

Twenty-seven-year-old Chandrama (name changed) of Ranitar, Panchthar, has been infected with HIV. She was infected with the virus after her husband Chandreshwor (name changed) returned from Kuwait where he was employed.

Chandreshwor went and returned twice from Kuwait since 2007. He has an idea when he was infected with the fatal disease. He bemoaned, “When we were in Delhi, on the way to Kuwait the first time in 2007, we did everything in the name of enjoyment. May be it brought this tragedy in my life.”

Both the spouses have are on ARV drugs said HIV consultant Om Prakash Yadav at District Health Office, Rautahat.

Chandrama regretted, “I managed 1.5 lakh rupees mortgaging my land and sent my husband to Kuwait wishing he would earn a good amount and would be easy to run the family, but my dream was shattered.”

According to the data of 2015/16 fiscal, at least four males and a female have been infected with the virus in Panchthar district.
