Five workers from Dang killed in Goa

Five youngsters from Dang were among the 15 persons killed when a partly-constructed five-storey building collapsed at Canacona in Goa on Saturday.

Four of the deceased were residents of Goltakuri VDC, while one was from Fulbari VDC. They used to work as security guards at the construction site and were resting after performing night duty when the building caved in. Dang DAO has identified the deceased as Tara Bahadur Khadka, Sitaram BK, Dipesh BK and Dipak Wali from Goltakuri and Dammar Nepali from Fulbari.

Tara Bahadur had left for Goa seeking employment only 15 days ago. His elder brother Durga Bahadur said Tara was planning to return home this month. “We were awaiting his return but got the tragic news of his demise,” Durga Bahadur said. Guru Prasad, another brother of Tara Bahadur who is also in Goa, had informed the family about Tara’s death. Tara Bahadur was father to a son and a daughter.

Another victim, Dammar, has left behind two sons and two daughters. His wife Kamala said she depended on her husband’s income for bringing up their four children. She wonders how she will feed the children after their father’s death.

According to victims’ families, all the five youth used to work for India Realtors and Developers. They have demanded that the government take an initiative to ensure fair probe into the building collapse and have also sought compensation.
