Foreign Employment Promotion Board (FEPB) is providing scholarships for children of migrant workers from forthcoming education year. The board is distributing scholarships to around 900 children of migrant worker from April, 2012.

“We are distributing scholarships to children of migrant workers who lost their lives or injured while working abroad,” said Murari Nepal, director of the board. The scholarships will be distributed from eight to 19 people in a district based on migration rate.

The districts over 40,000 migrant workers will get highest 19 scholarships and the districts with 2,000 to 5,000 will get nine scholarships. The board is distributing monthly scholarship Rs 7,000 to student studying in secondary level, Rs 5,000 to lower secondary level and Rs 2,500 to primary level. “The scholarships will be renewed on the basis of performance of migrant worker children,” he said.

The board had developed the scholarship scheme last year but National Vigilance Centre had stopped it in early stage raising question on selection process.

The board established to provide welfare services to migrant workers has been providing relief to victims of foreign employment. Likewise, the board is reimbursing orientation fee paid by women migrant workers to encourage them toward foreign jobs.
