EPS results out; 12,009 pass examination

Altogether 12,009 Nepalis have passed the Korean Language Test under the Employment Permit System (EPS).

On Friday, the South Korean government announced the results of the language tests under the EPS held in Kathmandu and Pokharain the second week of June.

Of them, 9,133 candidates were announced successful for the manufacturing sector and 2,876for the agriculture sector, said ShobhakarBhandari, information officer at the EPS Korea Section, Nepal.Of total 92,376applicants, only 84,308 had taken the language test. However, this time more than the required quota of 10,500 workers fixed for 2020 were declared successful.

The government of Korea will employ 3,000 Nepali youths in the agriculture sector and 7050 in the manufacturing sector, he said. There was no guarantee to get a job in South Korea even after passing the EPS exam, he said. All successful candidates need to participate in other skilled teststo get jobs in South Korea.

“Even after getting through the skill tests, the successful candidates will be kept in a roaster from which the Korean employers pick them,” he, said, adding that it was the right of the employers to select the candidates.South Korea has, of late, become an attractive destination for migrant workers as one worker draws at least Rs. 170,000 monthly there, he said.

More than 60,000 Nepali youth of both sexes had so far gone to South Korea under the EPS system that has been in implementation since 2008. According to him, around 24,000 Nepalis have already returned home from Korea after completing their tenure of four years and 10 months. Illegal stay of Nepali workers in South Korea is very low compared to other countries.
