Employment Fund to train 17‚195 in 2013

Employment Fund — a multi donor employment initiative — has planned to provide skill based training to about 17,195 Nepalis in 2013. It has designed 70 job oriented training programmes for next year.

The fund offers training to youths, aged between 18-40 years, that empowers them to get jobs in the construction, manufacturing and service sectors, said communications officer at the fund Komal Bhatta. “The trainings will be carried out across the country through 36 private training providers,” he said.

According to the fund, it has separated the training subjects and allocated seats based on the demand of the region. “Population is also a criterion while allocating the number of trainings and persons,” he said, adding that the highest number of trainings have been allocated for the central development region. About 7,780 youths residing in the region will get job trainings, he added.

As per the modality of the trainings, private training institutes associated with the programme will have to provide employment to trainees and then only will they be refunded the training cost. The fund has provided trainings to 55,000 Nepali youth in the last five years.

According to Bhatta, the highest number of youths will benefit from electrician training. About 2,060 youths across the country will receive the training, he said. However, only 20 people will get bar tender and FM technician trainings. Trainings for plumbing (820), mobile repair (1,100), tailoring (1,280) and carpentry are other preferred trainings.

The fund only provides training to youths exploring the job market. Our major focus is on the domestic market, but a few trained people have also joined jobs in foreign countries, he said.
