Duped workers cry for help

Cherung Tamang from Tiplang VDC-3 of Dhading district returned home recently after spending six months in Dubai, where he had gone as a migrant worker.

“I had gone there to earn money but had to return as my employer did not pay me for four months straight,” the 35-year-old lamented. Tamang and 20 other Nepali nationals were employed at a supermarket in Abu Dhabi. They made us work 12 hours daily and did not pay, said Tamang. “We worked for six months and we got paid for only two months. It was very hard for us to survive under such circumstances.”

Tamang was able to return home as his family helped him out by paying the airfare. His other friends, including Tika Basnet, Arjun Rana of Khotang, and Min Bahadur Rana of Tanahun are still languishing in Dubai with no one there to help them after  their employer fled.  Tamang said he and his friends had visited different offices in Dubai  seeking help but none came to their rescue.

I appeal to the government and other authorities concerned to bring my poor friends back home, Tamang said.
