KATHMANDU, July 17: The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has expressed its dissatisfaction after the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Immigration Office sent back Nepali migrant workers who were going to Kuwait and Jordan with work permits, saying that the permits were suspicious.

On July 9, 156 workers who were going to Kuwait and Jordan were stopped by the TIA Immigration Office. The manpower (recruitment companies) entrepreneurs demanded compensation from the government saying that they had to suffer losses due to this.

The DoFE issued a statement on Sunday saying that among those who were going to leave with the same type of work permit, some were given permission to leave and some were not.

On Sunday, the DoFE issued a statement, noting that some individuals with the same type of work permit were granted permission to depart, while others were stopped. The DoFE stated that such an act without any evidence is unfair.

In a statement issued by the director and information office of the DoFE, Gurudatta Subedi, it is mentioned that if the foreign employment is sent to the wrong place or on the basis of wrong documents, it is not advisable to send them back from the immigration office even though there is provision for compensation, fines and imprisonment according to the Foreign Employment Act.

Although the TIA Immigration Office has formed a committee to investigate this, the Department of Foreign Employment, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Labor have formed a joint investigation committee to conduct an ‘impartial’ investigation.
