Dhangadhi youths rescued two girls who were taken to India on various pretexts yesterday. The rescued girls were identified as Madhu Sarki, 13, and Anju Sarki, 14, of Punarbas Municipality, Kanchanpur.

 

They were rescued by Nabin Rawal and Indra Binadi among others from Mailani, India, and brought to Dhangadhi.

 

Madhu is a seventh grader at Saraswoti Secondary School while Anju is a sixth grader at Siddhanath Vidhya Niketan School in Kanchanpur.

 

“Both the victims were taken to India by Bishal Sarki to sell them in a brothel. Sarki is a Nepali citizen staying in Mumbai for employment. However, they were saved by the youths,” said Trinagar Police Post In-charge Sub-inspector Jeevan Gurung.

 

Rawal, who rescued the innocent girls yesterday, said he reserved a jeep and sent them back to Nepal on his own expense today morning. “I feel I have done something great. It was very difficult for us to make arrangement to send them back to Nepal. But, we are happy that the girls reached Nepal safely,” said Rawal.

 

The victims said Bishal disappeared right after crossing Punarbas border point. “We departed from our home at around 11:00pm on Friday night after Bishal called us. Two Indian nationals received us on the Indain side  of the border and took us to Indian market places on a public bus,” said Madhu.

 

Maiti Nepal Kailali District Programme Coordinator Shiva Charan Chaudhary said Maiti Nepal had rescued as many as 36,045 women and children in the past 25 years from various border points and brothels in India.
