Death of four Nepalis ‘unconfirmed’

The Nepali Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, has said it has so far failed to confirm international media reports that four Nepali nationals were killed in a suicide truck bomb and gun attack in Kabul on Tuesday.

“Quoting the Afghan police, the international media reported that there were four Nepalis among those killed. But none of the Nepalis working in the company with whom we are in touch since early morning confirmed the deaths of the Nepalis,” said the Embassy that also looks after Afghanistan.

Embassy officials said they spoke over telephone with a Nepali who was injured in the attack.
“He told us that four Nepalis were injured and they have been admitted in a local hospital.

Three of them are still undergoing treatment, while one was discharged,” Nepali Ambassador to Pakistan Bharat Raj Paudyal told the Post over the phone from Islamabad. A truck laden with explosives slammed an area in the north of Kabul used by foreign firms supplying NATO forces in Afghanistan early in the morning. Three attackers tried to storm the compound of Pinnacle North Hotel, but were shot by security guards.

Subas Dura, a security guard at the hotel, also confirmed the embassy claim that Nepalis were injured during the attack. According to him, Nepalis who work as personal guards were working inside the hotel.

Another guard Sashi Mahat also said four Nepalis were injured while some foreigners were killed.
Paudyal said they are in constant touch with Nepalis living in Afghanistan and that they are trying to verify the truth.
