Court remands Meridian Medical operator into custody

Accused of monopolising migrant workers’ health checkup
 
Kathmandu District Court has remanded Meridian Medical operator Dewan Rai in judicial custody. Rai, charged of duping migrant workers aspiring for jobs in Malaysia during biomedical health checkup along with 39 other operators, had failed to deposit a bail bond of Rs 5 million.
 
The police have demanded Rs 21.2 million as fine from the operators of Meridian Medical. The police on Friday will present its case against five other medical operators. The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security had scrapped the registrations and arrested 39 medical operators accusing them of monopolising health checkup procedures for migrant workers.
