CIAA files graft cases against DoFE officials and manpower agencies

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Wednesday filed separate corruption cases at the Special Court against top officials of Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) and manpower agency owners.

DoFE Director Chiranjivi Adhikari, Section Officer Kumar Prasad Pokharel, Senior Non-gazatted Officer Laxmi Prasad Dhungana and Computer Operator Sanjiv Nepal, among others have been accused of being bribed into approving unlawful documents for foreign job seekers.

In the charge-sheet filed at the Special Court, the anti-graft body accused the officials of approving fake documents by illegally charging Rs 1,890,000 from over 172 youths aspiring to go to Gulf countries. The charge sheet has sought Rs 1,890,000 from the accused in compensation and legal action as per the Corruption Prevention Act 2059 BS.

The officials are alleged to have charged Rs 50,000 per worker as bribe from Aalamdevi Associates and KITS Employment Service and, in return, issued work permits to the workers. More than a 100 workers involved in the case are reported to have already left the country for foreign employment.
