Child trafficking rampant

Trafficking of children from different Tarai districts to various Indian cities through the Birgunj route has increased. 

Children from poor and Dalit families are duped with the promise of lucrative jobs in India. 

According to Development Nepal, an NGO working for children’s rights, it rescued four children from being trafficked to India on Saturday. 

The victims have been identified as Firoj Mansuri, 13, of Katahariya, Alam, 13, of Bhusaha tole, Mahatab Alam, 13, of Katariya and Shekh Ahammad, informed Sandeep Singh Thakuri, Development Nepal programme coordinator. 

The rescued minors were handed over to their parents today, said Thakuri. However, the agents have fled the police net. 

Development Nepal had rescued three children who were made to work in inhumane conditions in various hotels in New Delhi, on Sunday. The victims, ten-year-olds Basanta Kumar of Baluwa, Mahammad Kasim, and Ranjit Kumar of Jingadiya of the district were handed over to their parents. The minors had been missing for four months. They told police that they were forced to work in different hotels in India. 

As per the latest data, many of the children being trafficked to India through the Birgunj border were from Rautahat and Sarlahi. 

Of those rescued, 254 children were from Rautahat, 11 were from Bara, 21 from Parsa, and five were from Makawanpur. The kids were lured with promises of easy money.
