Child labourers rescued from hotels

May 30 Various organisations based in Biratnagar today teamed up to rescue children working as labourers in different eateries across the city.

A total of 16 children –– four Indian nationals and 12 Nepalis –– were being forced to work under duress, the organisations said.
 
This operation comes a month after seven children were rescued from various hotels in Biratnagar and handed over to their guardians.
 
Biratnagar Sub-metropolitan city, Human Rights and Environment Forum, Children and Women Welfare Centre, District Police Office, Children Network, Hotel Entrepreneurs Association and mediapersons were involved in the programme.
 
The rescued children have been sent to a transit home operated by Biratnagar Sub-metropolitan city.
 
Binod Poudel, social mobiliser at Human Rights and Environment Forum, said that they intensified rescue work after receiving com plaints that children were forced to work in local eateries.
City authorities said the rescued children would be handed over to their guardians and they would also assist the children to join school and that the organisations would also help by providing textbooks to the children.
