Bring All Workers Under Social Security Net: Prez

Kathmandu, May 1: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expected that all workers of both the formal and informal sectors will be brought under the social security net.

“I expect that the concerned stakeholders will pay attention to exhibit high respect to agriculture and include all labourers in the social security programmes,” she said in a message issued on the occasion of the International Workers Day on Friday.

She said that the Constitution of Nepal had ensured the right to employment to all citizens and rights of fair labour exercise, wages and contributory social security facility.

In the same line, the government has guaranteed social security of the workers through employment for at least 100 days through the Prime Minister Employment Programme.

As the constitutional provisions are being materialised to create socialism-oriented economy based on justice and equality, I am hopeful that the workers in the country will be benefitted from this exercise, she maintained.

President Bhandari expressed her hope that the International Workers Day would unite all workers of the world.

President Bhandari urged patience and unity to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

“We stand at a very difficult time due to COVID-19. I am hopeful that the government’s policy and programmes for the next fiscal year will give due attention to the crisis, and the workers’ life will return to normal,” she said.

President Bhandari expressed her hope that the International Workers Day would unite all workers of the world.
