Blind Man Makes living breaking rocks

Hari Krishna Gautam

Aait Bahadur Darji, a blind man of Beni- 3 Jyamaruk Kot, earns his living by breaking stones. "Even though I cannot see, breaking stones has helped me sustain my family and pay my sons' school fee," says Darji.

He said he has been working hard to give a better life to his two sons. His both sons are still in school and the eldest son is preparing for a School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exam.

"Sometimes, I hardly make Rs 200 a day," Darji revealed. Often he can't afford two square meals a day. He laments that, although there are many organizations who work for the disabled, none has come to support him. His younger son, too, is visually-impaired and his wife frequently gets sick. "The responsibility to look after my family is entirely on my shoulders," said Darji.

According to the principal of Khadak Bhavani Secondary school, Darji and his family have been living in a small hut built on a public property.

The school has been providing free lunch to Darji.
