Banke woman ‘sexually exploited’ in SArabia

A migrant worker from Parasan VDC-7 in Banke has allegedly faced sexual exploitation at the hand of her employer in Saudi Arabia.

The 18-year-old woman said she was sent to Saudi Arabia illegally by agents around three years ago. According to the woman, one named Devi Sunar of Rajhena VDC-7 took her to her house on November 12, 2010, saying that she would find her a job.

After spending around 20 days there, Devi took her to Mumbai in India and handed her over to Amir Ulla Khan and Ali Ulla Khan of Betini VDC-2, the victim said, adding that the duo then made fake documents and sent her to Saudi Arabia. She said her employer and their relatives sexually exploited her from time to time. “My employer and his friends used to lock me up in a room in the afternoon and exploit me sexually at night.” She said 10 to 12 people sexually abused her every day. “When I refused to have sex with them, they would bang my head on the wall and burn my body with cigarette butts.”

She said she finally sneaked out when her employer and his family members were having fun and managed to phone her sister back home.  Thereafter officials of Nepali organisations, including the Nepali embassy in Saudi Arabia, rescued her. She returned to Nepal empty-handed a week ago.

Meanwhile, she lodged a complaint with the District Court against the Amir, Ali and Devi on Tuesday. Police arrested Devi while Amir and Ali are still at large. Advocate Rajendra Sharma, who helped her file the complaint, said the woman was mentally disturbed.
