A man died after an under-construction tunnel of the Arun III hydropower project in Sankhuwasabha collapsed, on Tuesday.

Two people were injured in the incident.

According to the police, the accident occurred on Tuesday morning after a section of the tunnel located at Pukhuwa in Chichila, where the powerhouse is located, gave way while works were ongoing at the project site of the 900MW hydroelectric project.

Police have identified the victim as Surya Gole Tamang, 20, of Sindhupalchok district.

Meanwhile, 54-year-old Bhim Bahadur Pandey of Bhojpur and 38-year-old Mangal Tamang of Sindhupalchok sustained injuries during the incident. Both the injured are reported to be in stable condition.

The body of the deceased has been brought to District Hospital Khandbari for postmortem.
