Agitating Workers Briefly Detained at Medical College

As many as 63 workers affiliated to All Nepal Heath and Sanitation Labour Union Unit at Chitwan Medical College were briefly detained today.

The labourers working at the college have been agitating since February 3. Union Chairperson Saraswoti Dhakal said police had detained workers who had reached the ticket counter to close down the OPD service at 8:00am today.

Dhakal said her union had been agitating with demands that included salary as per the Labour Act, pension facility, Dashain bonus and permanent appointment.

She said the college management had been threatening the staffers and transferring them to other departments instead of addressing their demands.

SP Basant Bahadur Kunwar at District Police Office, Chitwan, said police had detained 56 females and seven males at the hospital management’s request due to their obstruction of hospital service.
They were freed in the evening.
