Women refugees on hunger strike

Women refugees in Beldangi Refugee Camp have started a fast-unto-death strike from today demanding relief and identity cards for refugees.

Fifteen women refugees living in Beldangi-2 camp have gone on hunger strike, said Durga Devi Bista, coordinator of the women’s group.

Speaking at the programme Bhutanese leader Bhampa Rai called on the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Nepal Government to heed the refugees’ demand. Around 3,749 refugees have been denied essentials, the refugees say.
