Woman gets 20-yr jail for human trafficking charge

The Makawanpur District Court on Tuesday convicted a woman of human trafficking and sent her to 20 years in jail.

Sunita Moktan, 28, of Churiyamai-3, Makawanpur was found guilty by the court of trafficking a local woman to Bahrain.

A single bench of Judge Dayaram Dhakal also slapped her with a fine of Rs 200,000 and ordered her to provide Rs 200,000 to the victim as compensation.

A woman, identified as Kamala Moktan of Churiyamai had promised the 25-year-old victim of a job in Bahrain and taken her to India. Sunita, along with her associate, then had trafficked the victim to Bahrain.

The victim, however, managed to return home after six months with the help of a local woman in Bahrain.
