Students get warning

Nepali embassy in Bangladesh has cautioned Nepali students and guardians against applying for BSC Nursing course at International University of Business, Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), Dhaka, Bangladesh, as the institution is yet to get recognition from Bangladeshi authorities.

As many as 30 Nepali students, who chose to pursue BSc Nursing at IUBAT found themselves in a tight spot after it was revealed that the varsity was running the programme without permit.

Students will not only be barred from pursuing higher degrees, but cannot also apply for nursing jobs as the Bangladesh Nursing Council has refused to recognise the degree, making it obligatory for Nepal Nursing Council to follow suit.

Sending a dispatch to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in Kathmandu last week, the embassy said it has found some Nepali education consultancies are still persuading many Nepali students to apply for the course at that University.

In its October 25 correspondence, the embassy also suggested that MoFA inform the Ministry of Education and Bangladeshi embassy in Kathmandu about the matter and request them not to issue ‘no objection letters’ and visas respectively to students.“IUBAT has no permit to run B.Sc Nursing course from Bangladeshi Nursing Council and UGC. But, Nepali consultancies are luring students to apply at IUBAT for the course, hiding the fact,” reads the embassy correspondence.
