Rescued children go home

The children who were rescued from the Thankot-based sari embroidery factories last week have been taken to their respective home districts for reintegration with their families.

The reintegration process is being run jointly by the Central Child Welfare Board under the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, and private institutions including the Child Development Society (CDS) and Child Workers in Nepal.

“All the children were taken to their home districts on Tuesday,” said Yubaraj Roka of the CDS.
Of the 39 children rescued last Thursday, 16 hail from Sarlahi district, 18 from Mahottari and the rest from Sitamari in the Indian state of Bihar. According to Roka, the guardians have been informed about their children coming home. Financial support packages await both the parents and the children who will be enrolled in schools.
