Over 1‚000 EPS workers to return to Nepal soon

More than 1,000 Nepali migrant workers in South Korea are returning to the country by the end of current fiscal year after completing three-year tenure. Those workers were from Employment Permit System (EPS) 2008 batch.

Workers, whose had joined South Korean job between August-December 2008, are returning to country, said Mahesh Acharya, chief of EPS Nepal. “If they will not return in time, it will affect next process,” he said. Vice-president of Global Workforce Unit of South Korea Nam-Ihl Kim had warned Nepal government about the issue in his visit in mid-October. The had said that Next EPS process will start in 2012 only after2008 batch workers returned from South Korea. 

South Korea is a lucrative destination to Nepali workers where a EPS worker can earn $ 1,000 (Rs 78,000) in a month. Salary offered in South Korea is at least five timed more than popular destinations– Malaysia and Gulf countries. Cost for an EPS job $970.20 is lowest in popular destinations.
