The walk seeks to bring together around 500 people and raise at least US$20,000 as contributions. According to the organizers, it is “a campaign to engage Nepali Diaspora in generating goodwill and substantial contributions to Nepal.” 

 

The idea behind the campaign, they say, is to tap the collective potential of the fast-growing population of Nepalis in the US and throughout the world.The three-mile walkathon, which will take place on November 6, will be held in Boston, MA. Various organizations, including Friends of Maiti Nepal (FOMN), Empower Dalit Women of Nepal (EDWON), HELP NEPAL Network (HeNN), Nyaya Health, and Nepalese Children’s Education Foundation (NCEF), will participate in the walkathon.

Also, Rock for Nepal, an organization that aims to promote and elevate Nepali rock music to international standards, is scheduled to present a concert at the closing of the walk.

 

“Walk for Nepal is envisioned as a movement and a common platform for organizing walkathons in the major cities worldwide to mobilize individuals and organizations interested in the socio-economic development of Nepal,” states the WfN press release. Partner organizations of WfN will use the platform to mobilize their supporters to walk and sponsor the walkers and raise funds for their organizations and projects. These NGOs will further contribute twenty percent of the funds they raise to the Walk for Nepal fund.WfN will later list the selected projects from Nepal on their website for public voting and utilize the 20% WfN Fund to award the winning projects.
