Nepali students clash in Dhaka; More than 10 injured

A group of Nepali students armed with sharp weapons at the University of Science and Technology in Chatgaun, Bangladesh, attacked their fellow Nepali students, injuring more than 10 students. The incident took place yesterday in the university hostel.

According to a fellow student, some of the victims were overthrown from the three-storey hostel building after being attacked with the sharp weapons.

Three of them, including Dipak Giri and Shailujannad Bhujel are seriously injured.

Giri was stabbed on his stomach while Bhujet was overthrown from the third floor of the building.

The student said some 300 Nepalis are studying in the University and small verbal exchanges had culminated in fighting.

All the injured are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

An official at the Nepali embassy in Dhaka told this daily that all injured are out of danger.

He said the mission was probing the cause behind the feud among fellow Nepalis with local authorities and Nepali students as well.

“We have been informed that all the injured are out of danger,” he said.

“We will go to Chatgaun to investigate.”
