NT‚ Qtel pact to benefit 1.4m migrants

Nepal Telecom (NT) is all set to establish Multi Service Point of Presence at the Doha of Qatar.

Nepal Telecom’s capacity of interconnection connection will significantly up after operation of Point of Presence, the company claimed, adding that it has today reached an agreement with Qatar Telecom (Qtel) to set interconnection through Point of Presence. “The Point of Presence will help connect directly to the rest of Gulf countries including Saudi Arab, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and others,” managing director Amar-nath Singh said, adding that consumers from Gulf countries can call Nepal at a low cost after establishing Multi Service Point of Presence at Qatar. Some 1.4 million workers are currently working at the different Gulf countries, according to the official data of the government.

Earlier, Qtel and Nepal Telecom had set interconnection through newly established direct cable interconnection between Nepal and Qatar. Around 0.46 million migrant workers have been benefitting from the agreement, NT said, adding that the new agreement will help reduce the cost of call from Gulf countries benefitting more Nepali migrant workers.
