Government mulling skill training for EPS aspirants

The government is mulling a concept to provide skill training programmes to Employment Permit System (EPS) job aspirants to increase their efficiency in works. Ministry of Labour and Transport Management is considering short-term trainings for EPS aspirants in their field of works, said Dr Ram Hari Aryal, secretary at the ministry in an interaction today.

According to him, trainings targeted to South Korean job aspirants will be professional and provide real job experience in the country. “They will get South Korean working experience here,” he said adding that such trainings will build confidence of Nepali workers. Private sector training institutes will provide trainings to EPS aspirants under strict supervision of the government. Skill trainings will increase cost of EPS job at nominal rate, said EPS Nepal chief Mahesh Acharya.

He informed that the EPS Nepal is also mulling to build welfare fund for EPS to help EPS aspirants in difficulties. “Still, the concept is in primary stage but the ministry is positive in it,” he informed.
In the interaction, president of Non-Resident Nepalese (NRN) South Korea chapter KP Sitaula has urged the government to train EPS aspirants in real working situation before their departure to South Korea. “Nepalis working in Fisheries and agriculture sectors suffering from exploitations, so the government should stop workers sending in these sector or give better trainings,” he said.

Nepalis working in South Korea also suggests the government to regularise Korean Language institutes. “Korean language institutes in Nepal are certified and language teachers are not trained,” said Rajan Bhattrai, a graduate from South Korean university. He urged the government to set up criteria for language institutes.

NRN South Korea show grave concern in marriage between Nepali women and South Korean men. “It seems marriage between two nationalities but most of the case it is human trafficking, so it should be stopped,” said Rudra Sharma, a Nepali businessmen working in Seoul. He also asked the government to facilitate Nepali businessmen in South Korea through diplomatic channels. Nepali businessmen have been facing visa problems from South Korean side.
