Girls rescued from Delhi hotel

Eight Nepali girls between 20 to 30 years of age have been rescued from a hotel in New Delhi sabotaging an attempt of a gang of agents to sell them in Jordan on the promise of foreign jobs.

The girls hailing from Jhapa, Okhaldhunga, Pyuthan and Kavre arrived in New Delhi airport six days back en route to Jordan where they were promised job of housemaids by one Tej Bahadur Shrestha alias Raju Pradhan in Nepal.

“When Indian immigration officials asked for our passports, Samir Miya, Raju’s friend who was supposed to travel with us to Jordan, bribed the Indian police to get us out of the airport,” Meena (name changed), one of the girls said. But when Samir failed to take them to Jordan even after five days in Delhi, Meena said, the girls became suspicious.

“The real matter came to light when an Arab man and a Punjabi guy started misbehaving with us using foul language at the hotel where we were staying,” Sita (named changed), another victim told Republica, adding, “On Thursday night, the Arab man called the hotel reception and told the receptionist to send the most beautiful girl among us to him.”

The Arab man has been identified as Fayes Nassar Sabah Abuelizz from Jordan with passport number k702528. The identities of his two accomplices of Punjabi origin are yet to be disclosed by the police. Samir is absconding since few days and Raju has been untraceable.

The girls were rescued from Kelson Hotel in Pahargunj area of Delhi by Help Nepali Mission, a local NGO, on Thursday and taken to the Nepal embassy on Friday.

“We informed the police after we got a call from a local about the girls,” Kabi Karki, the coordinator of the Mission told Republica. Karki informed that no case has been filed yet and the police has not initiated any action. “We are now trying to send the girls home,” he said.

Khaganath Adhikari, the Deputy Chief of Mission at Nepali embassy, too, said that the embassy is facilitating their safe return home.
