Girl back from Gulf arrested with forged passport

The Central Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police arrested Anjali Moktan of Raksirang-8, Makwanpur, from the Tribhuvan International Airport yesterday for using a forged Nepali passport to go abroad for employment.

According to CIB, the girl in collusion with passport forgers and human traffickers had flown to Kuwait on April 28, 2010 to work as a housemaid when she was 16, violating the law that does not allow a person under the age of 21 to travel to Gulf countries for employment.

The Nepali Embassy in Kuwait had sent the girl back upon finding that she had been using the genuine passport (no. 4877269) issued in the name of Buddhi Maya Ghalan of Manhari-2, Makwanpur, replacing Ghalan’s photo with hers. During interrogation, Anjali told CIB that Bhim Bahadur Moktan, one of her relatives, had kept her in the Kalanki-based Laligunras Guest House for 10 days and arranged the passport and visa. The girl said she paid Moktan Rs 25,000 for the arrangements.

“Using forged passports, a large number of Nepali and Indian women have reached Kuwait. Most of them have been working in subhuman conditions there,” Anjali said. The CIB has handed over the girl to Kathmandu police for further investigation.
