Foreign worker monitoring soon

Department of Labour is starting monitoring of illegal foreign workers immediately after Tihar, the festival of lights.

We have formed five monitoring teams to inspect different sectors of employment, said Man Bahadur BK, director general of the department. The department expects 30,000 illegal foreign workers in industries, schools and colleges’ and non-governmental organisations. However, just 3,000 of them are recorded in the department until fiscal year 2010-11. About 71 foreign workers have taken work permit in last three months. Nepali labour law ban foreign workers to work in the country without permission form the department. Work permit cost Rs 10,000 for the period of one year.
