FEPB loses its architect

With the untimely demise of Foreign Employment Promotion Board (FEPB) Executive Director Sthaneshwor Devkota, the foreign employment sector has lost a patron renowned for his welfare programmes for migrant workers.

Devkota was killed in a jeep accident at Bhimphedi-8 on Monday morning during his visit to Makawanpur district. Devkota, the founding executive director of the FEPB, had been serving the board since four years. He was considered to be one of the few persons in the industry with a very good insight into foreign employment. He will be remembered for some of his outstanding contributions to the welfare of migrant workers. In order to make foreign employment industry secure, organised and decent, the board has drafted a strategic plan that his team envisioned. He played an important role in allocating funds to help imprisoned and stray workers. His effort in bringing the bodies of migrant workers to Nepal from various labour destinations is another notable work. During his leadership, the FEPB initiated scholarship packages to the children of deceased migrant workers, established safe houses for returned women migrant workers and imparted skill development training to returnees, announced rehabilitation packages for migrant workers and made orientation for female workers mandatory before their departure. Director General of the Department of Foreign Employment Purna Chandra Bhattarai said the loss is irrecoverable for the foreign employment sector.
