Nepali Embassy in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday located Umesh Yadav, who has recently been slapped capital punishment by a local court, and collected his personal details and other information.

Sagar Prasad Phuyal, second secretary at the embassy, said a permanent resident of Majhijhitakaiya VDC-4 in Dhanusha, Yadav, 31, was doing time in a Jubail-based prison around 5 km from Riyadh.

Yadav reached the country five years ago through Kathmandu-based Subash Manpower Company and had been working in Saudi Binladin Company as a labourer. He was arrested on the charge of a murder and robbery two months after his arrival in the country.

Phuyal said Yadav did not know about the punishment other than his friends telling him that he could get death penalty for a case like that.

“He was saddened by the news about the punishment. We consoled and assured him that we would fight a legal battle to save his life,” said Phuyal over telephone.

The embassy said that the Jubail court slapped the punishment on Yadav a week ago for his involvement in the murder of a Pakistani national.

Nepali Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Udayraj Pandey said that a document concerning the punishment sent by the country’s Foreign Ministry to the embassy did not entail much personal details and other information about Yadav. He said that the embassy would initiate efforts to save Yadav’s life after collecting required information from the prison and the Pakistani embassy.

According to the Nepali embassy, Yadav was out of contact with his family members for the past seven months. He has a six-member family including father, mother, wife and two sons. There are 10 other Nepali migrant workers doing time on various charges in the prison.
