Abused teen's kin seek justice

The family of a teenager who was ‘sexually abused’ by the house owner where she worked as a domestic helper, have alleged that police is not heeding their complaint.

“I want the culprit to be arrested but the police are not heeding by request,” said Gopi, the 15-year-old’s (name withheld) father. Gopi’s daughter was allegedly abused by local Ganesh Adhikari, a village committee member of Nepali Congress, in Mahendranagar-5, Sunsari.

Adhikari’s sister, Inu, who is the Sunsari chair of Paralegal –– an organisation working on child rights –– had separated the girl from her family and taken her home with her on the pretext of providing education, seven years ago. Inu had handed over the girl to her brother four years ago after she started living separately.

Earlier, irate locals had set Inu’s house ablaze accusing her of protecting her brother.

Meanwhile, the victimised girl said Adhikari made sexual advances two months ago when his wife had just delivered a baby.

Inspector BK, however, said a team has been mobilised to arrest Adhikari. “I request the victim’s family not to doubt our commitment,” he said.
