64 freed workers return to India

Sixty-four Indian workers rescued from the Om Brick Kiln of Belhakatti, Siraha, have reached their hometown Jayanagar in India today.

According to Siraha District Court Registrar Durga Bahadur Bushal, the rescued workers have been handed over to the local social leaders of the bordering Kamalawadi village of India.

“After the apex court’s order to repatriate the rescued workers to their homeland in cooperating with the Indian local administration, the court today took the workers to Jayanagar,” said Bhusal.

The Supreme Court had directed the concerned bodies of Siraha to rescue the workers about a week ago, responding to a writ filed by a worker’s kin Sewa Ram seeking that the workers be freed from exploitation at the brick kiln.

The Siraha court had rescued the workers on January 14.
