42 children rescued in Surkhet

As many as 42 children who were being trafficked to India have been rescued from Surkhet. Acting on a tip-off, Area Police Office Chhinchule rescued 42 children from Salyan, They were being taken to India in a bus that had been reserved, on Friday night.

Police have arrested agents Suresh Kumar Rokkamagar and Tanka Prasad Rokkamagar from Salyan, inspector Dip Kumar Shah said. Preliminary investigation shows that the children were being taken to Shimla in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. Police also said that the agents had promised them work at Ambuja Cement factory.

The arrested Rokkamagars admitted to police that they had been working as agents who used to take children to India so as to find work for them for the last seven years. Inspector Shah said the rescued children are from Nigalchula, Kupindedaha, and Majhkot in Salyan and also from Purandahra VDC of Dang.

Eighteen of the rescued kids are boys and 24 are girls. The children are between the age of 12 and 16.
Surkhet DAO is making a plans to submit rescued children to Salyan police to hand them over to their families.
Surkhet CDO Purushottam Kuwar said an investigation has been launched. “We shall hand the children against Madhesis to the police, who will in turn, give the kids back to their families,” Kuwar added.
