3 Nepali workers killed in Bahrain accident
Three Nepali migrant workers were killed in a road accident in Bahrain on Friday. Bel Bahadur Pun, 47, Kul Prasad Pun Phakami, 23, and Tuka Raj Thapa, 22, were hit by a car while crossing the Shaikh Isa bin Salman Highway at around 2 pm local time.
The car, which was reportedly being driven by a Bahraini, had knocked them down while they were walking home after their company vehicle dropped them at the drop off point, near a divider on the highway.
The victims were reportedly working as gardeners at Gulf Fencing and Specialist Surfacing Establishment, a Manama-based company. Phakami and Thapa had recently gone to Bahrain while Pun was working there for the past 20 years.
Currently, a Nepali Club is handling the case until a representative from the Nepali Embassy in Saudi Arabia reaches Bahrain, reported Daily Tribune. The driver, who was also injured in the accident, was taken to the Salmaniya Medical Complex along with the three bodies.
Executive Director of Foreign Employment Promotion Board Sthaneshwor Devkota said the board will help bring the bodies and the family of the deceased would get welfare amount as per the legal provision.
A recent survey of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Foreign Employment has shown road accident as the major cause of the death of migrant workers.
