Twenty-one Nepali women who were trying to go to Dubai and other cities in the Gulf countries illegally have been caught from different hotels at Mahilpalpur in New Delhi, India.

Indian police raided the hotels as they were informed by seven Nepali women, who were being trafficked to Dubai by a human trafficking racket on Saturday. A majority of them were arrested from Shreeram Hotel and some from private apartments.

Police also detained Bishnu Tamang and Dayaram on the charge of human trafficking. They were taken into the custody of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and will be handed over to Nari Niketan Centre in New Delhi, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police IGI Airport MI Haider said Nepali women, aged 25-33, were kept in Mahilpalpur areas. “They were attempting to travel to Dubai using forged documents,” he said, adding that seven Nepali women were also rescued in New Delhi last week while they were being trafficked to Dubai.

Police have filed an FIR against women and the agents. The agents confessed that they have charged minimum Indian Rs 5,000 for each woman to issue illegal boarding passes to reach Dubai.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that women have reached New Delhi via various bus routes of Nepal-India borders. Bhumiraj Bhattarai, coordinator of Peace Rehabilitation Centre of Krishnagar in Nepal-India border, said dozens of women used to go to New Delhi by passenger buses every month. “We cannot punish them as there is no such rule to control the movement,” he said.
Indian police said they inspected Pahadgunj and Mahipalpur areas in Delhi as human trafficking cases increased.
