2 Gurkhas killed in Afghanistan

One of two British Gurkha soldiers shot dead in Afghanistan on Tuesday has been identified as Siddhant Kunwar, a resident of Rambazar, Pokhara-10.

Kunwar, 28, joined the British Army in 2005 and was deployed in Afghanistan on October 3 this year. His father Shyam Kumar Kunwar said it was the third time for his son in the war-torn country.

A gunman in Afghan police uniform opened fire at soldiers at a checkpoint in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan, killing the two soldiers of the The Royal Gurkha Rifles. The another soldier’s identity is yet to be released. 

Kunwar’s father, 78, is a retired soldier of the Indian Army. Four relatives will be accompanying him to the UK to receive the body. 

In a statement, the British Embassy in Kathmandu on Wednesday announced the death of the two soldiers.
