Sankhuwasabha, Jan. 5: At least 14 Nepali nationals who were stranded at Changa Bazar of Tibet, China, due to closure of the Nepal-China border point at Kimathanka in Shankhuwashabha district, have been rescued.

12 people of Sankhuwasabha and 2 of Taplejung, who had entered China in search of job opportunities were brought back to the country on Tuesday evening.

After the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the Nepal-China border point was closed recently. They were brought back on the initiative of local administration, border police post and Bhotkhola Gaupalika.

The border was opened for about one hour to bring them back.

Tenchewi Bhote, Ward Chair of the Gaupalika, Inspector Devkumar Rai and a team of Kimathanka health post rescued the stranded Nepalis.

“They had come up to Kamu River’s gate, which lies between Tibet and Kimathanka with Chinese health workers,” said Ward Chair Bhote.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Mohan Mani Ghimire said that the rescued Nepalis would be kept at Kimathanka on constant supervision of health workers.

Until now, no health problems has been recorded, said Phutik Bhotiya, Chief of Kimathanka Health Post.
