Armed Police Border Security Force today rescued 13 children, who were allegedly being trafficked to India from Birgunj.

The children, aged between 10 to 12 from Makawanpur, Bara, Rautahat and Sarlahi were rescued from Inarwa entry point, DSP Rup Kumar Chhetri said.

“We have also detained four youth Yubak Lama and his brother Serap of Makawanpur, Durga Lopchan of Bara and Dev Karsang Lama of Rautahat who were taking the boys across the border on autorickshaws,” Chhetri said. Meanwhile, the detained youth alleged of smuggling the children have denied the charge saying, “It was an undue interference of the security persons as we were taking the boys for a noble cause.” According to Yubak Lama, they were going to enroll the boys at a university in Karnataka for Buddhist studies.

DSP Chhetri, on the other hand, said they had to detain the children and youth as the kids were being taken out of the country without the consent of their guardians and necessary documents of the concerned VDCs to take them abroad.
