The Nepali Embassy in Oman has rescued 11 stranded Nepali workers from a local company and sent them back to Nepal.

 

The rescued workers were sent to local company Muwarad Wadi Hibi Modern Trade in Sohar of the Gulf Sultanate by Nepali recruiting agency Honesty Overseas. The agency had placed a group of 20 Nepali workers for  construction jobs in the company. The company had devoid these workers of basic facilities as mentioned in the agreement. However, the employer had posted 11 of them in a place called Barka, 165km away from the company, against the labour contract, the embassy said in a statement.

 

Responding to the request of stranded workers to return home, the embassy had conducted site inspection and held discussions with the stakeholders concerned.

 

“As a series of dialogues with the stakeholders failed to resolve the matter, the embassy has decided to send the workers back as per their initial request,” said the embassy, adding that it has also taken steps for legal remedies against the company. The embassy has said efforts are on to resolve problems of the nine remaining Nepalis.
