10 Nepali migrant workers held captive in India

A gang of Indian looters has held as many as 10 migrant Nepali workers, who were returning home, captive since April 2.

The band of looters administered syringes and held the migrant workers near Gonda railway station of Uttar Pradesh, India, according to two youths who had managed to flee.

Suraj Kumal, 24, and Mane Kumal, of Dharmawati VDC-4, Pyuthan, informed Banke police that the looters had overpowered them on a train and taken them to a room. “We were unconscious after they injected syringes. We realised we had been looted when we gained our senses,” the Kumal duo added.

The two youths arrived in Nepalgunj via India’s Rupaidiha border point today. SI Krishna Soni of Area Police Office, Jamunaha, said that the two Kumal youths had informed the police about the looters taking 10 Nepali migrant workers hostage near Gonda railway station.

While Suraj and Mane were robbed of Rs 22,000 and Rs 29,500 respectively, two other hostages have been identified as Ashok Kumal and Narayan Kumal of Pyuthan. Police said the migrant workers had been working in Punjab of India. According to SI Soni, they have already informed the Indian police in Rupaidiha about the incident and asked for their assistance to rescue the captives.

Migrant Nepali workers from various districts of the mid-west region return home via Rupaidiha border point.
