LISBON (PORTUGAL), July 16: Representatives from various associations of emigrants recently met Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and requested him to correct the country’s immigration policy.

A delegation led by Emigrants' Solidarity Association, Timoteo Macedo, met President de Sousa, and made such a request. Also present in the delegation, member of NRNA coordination council, Raj Kumar Thapa, informed that the Portuguese President was made aware that recent changes to the immigration policy in Portugal would create problems for migrants.

Millions of imigrants were adversely affected by the policy change, so the President was urged not to tighten the policy, Thapa added.

President de Sousa also showed interest in the issue and informed them that his attention had been drawn towards the matter.

A memorandum signed by representatives of 51 associations of migrant people was submitted to the Portuguese President.
