Himalaya Kharel holds a Master's degree in anthropology from Tribhuvan University (TU), Kathmandu, Nepal, and has a Bachelor’s degree in law from the Nepal Law Campus Kathmandu. He has also completed a one-year Graduate Diploma course in the social sciences from the Nepā School of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2010.

Formerly, he worked as a researcher for Alliance for Social Dialogue, and was an instructor for the non-formal education of child labours at the Child Protection Centre (CPC), and as a consultant for the NGO ‘Youth Association of Nepal’ (YAN). Himalaya’s research interests include foreign labour migration and recruitment practices.
